Abortion Rights Freedom Ride: Ground Zero Texas
People's Hearings

Thousands around the country tuned in each week in the Month of August 2014 for these powerful storytelling events. They heard many different voices, coming from many different perspectives, uniting to bring alive the stories of women who got abortions and do not regret them, as well as the stories of what happens to women when abortion is illegal (from before abortion was legalized in this country, from areas in this country where abortion is so inaccessible women are in the same situation as when it was illegal, and/or from countries where abortion is illegal). By tuning in, people everywhere learned about the emergency situation and stakes, bringing together growing networks of common concern, and laying the basis for growing numbers to step out nation-wide. This was and continues to be a critical element of waging this fight in a way that sets the record straight for millions "in the middle" and strengthens the entire national counter-offensive.
These powerful storytelling events were held in Houston, Austin, San Antonio, and the Rio Grande Valley, drawing out the true dimensions of the abortion rights emergency. We regret that at the moment, we can only offer two of the four People's Hearings that were held in Texas.

Houston People's Hearing
July 30, Encore Theater

Austin People's Hearing
August 6, Austin Centre

The models for these hearings were the April 2014 Emergency Response Speak-Outs in New York City and San Francisco.
Since then, another such event was held in New York in January of 2015.

Who is stop patriarchy?

Stop Patriarchy is a group for everyone who wants to FIGHT to STOP the enslavement of women. Not politely lobby against it. Not grumble at the TV. Not simply post things on Twitter. And definitely not sit around waiting for those in power to “come to their senses.” It is also a movement for everyone who can be won to see the need for this – we are fighting aggressively to change minds and to grow and deepen and escalate until we succeed in changing everything.
