In 2011, Stop Patriarchy began with a Call to Action - End Pornography and Patriarchy: The Enslavement and Degradation of Women! Sunsara Taylor, writer for Revolution newspaper, gave a speech in 2012 (right) that called for "a force of people, all ages and all genders, not only but particularly young people, who are uncompromising and defiant in their refusal to accept and their determination to defeat the current war on women." This speech, given on the occasion of International Women's Day, called for a protest and a movement, that "shakes off any remnant of passivity," in loudly and publicly confronting the institutions that enslave and degrade women, as part of the urgently needed fight to end patriarchy.
Since then, Stop Patriarchy has led protests on every International Women's Day, where women and others have raised their voices, told their stories, and put those patriarchal institution on notice as part of building up a culture of resistance that rejects all forms of patriarchy, all around the world. |
